Good morning, tradersā¦
Ben here.
NOTE: Iām writing this on Tuesday morning, so I donāt know anything about the election results yet.
As I prepare my game plan for either potential election winner, Iām thinking a lot about the economy as a whole.
Right now, thereās a general feeling that the economy is bad.
But if you look at the numbers, they donāt match up with the overall vibeā¦
Unemployment is low. GDP is growing steadily. The stock market is at all-time highs.
So, why arenāt people more confident about the economy? We have to look to historyā¦
Before trading, I was a history major. And in history, we talk about how peopleās perspectives on the world shape how they act.
The economy runs on trust and confidence. When folks think things are going south, they start holding back ā maybe they spend a bit less, stash a little more cash, or play it safer with investments. Itās kind of like a self-fulfilling cycle.
But we havenāt really seen that yet, at least not reflected in the stock marketā¦
Even if the āvibe is bad,ā the market has still been ripping ā and disciplined traders have been making money hand-over-fist.
Take it from me: I didnāt make a single losing trade in September.*
So today, letās take a closer look at this strange vibe in the economy, figure out why itās there, and learn how to find killer trading opportunities in all this uncertainty.
Whatās Going on with the āVibecessionā
Iāve been trading since 2002, and I can tell you from experience ā peopleās emotions shape the market more than anything else.
Right now, weāve got this weird tension. On paper, the economy looks good: low unemployment, decent GDP growth, and steady corporate earnings in many sectorsā¦
But at the same time, you have people on edge, feeling like a recession is just around the corner.
Why are folks so downbeat? Well, weāve had a rough couple of years. Between the pandemic, geopolitical conflicts worldwide, and headlines warning about potential crashes ā itās like everyoneās got this lingering sense that the economy is worse than it is.
To make things worse, inflating costs in rent, mortgages, and groceries are putting a big strain on the individual consumer, even if the data isnāt reflecting that as much.
Thereās this undercurrent of anxiety, like people are bracing themselves for something badā¦
Thatās the āvibecessionā ā a recession that exists more in our heads than in reality.
And that fear is contagious, like a mental pandemic in and of itselfā¦
Once people start talking about recessions, even if the economyās okay, that negativity spreads like wildfire.
But if you embrace the fear, you can actually use it to your advantage.
How Traders Can Capitalize
As traders, itās our job to tune out the noise and make sense of whatās really going on beneath the headlines, the social media posts, and the prevailing wisdom.
Sure, you might hear fear and uncertainty from people in the media, but that doesnāt mean you shouldnāt buy calls or start getting super bearish.
And hereās where experience comes in handyā¦
When I was new to trading, Iād get caught up in the fear too. Iād pull back on trades, second-guess my moves, and watch opportunities pass me by.
Now, I know that the marketās biggest moves often come from emotion, not data.
If youāre seeing traders around you get wrapped up in the doom and gloom ā thatās a sign to dig in deeper.
While many traders have left money on the table in 2024 due to fears about the āvibecession,ā Iāve pressed my edge and stuck to my battle-tested strategies, like:
- Earnings Edge ā My specialized system with an uncanny ability to predict earnings moves before the reports are released.
- Smart Money Trading (with my SPYDER Scanner) ā The secret to my 83% overall win rate in the options market.
By staying disciplined and trading with the tools that have proven themselves to me, Iāve had one of my best years ever ā with some of my best individual trades of all time.
Yes, it feels strange and uncertain right now, but that doesnāt mean there arenāt incredible trading opportunities.
If you werenāt aware ⦠the Winter Blitz Window is open again!
And this winter, Tim Sykes is going on an all-out attack ā aiming for more gains in the next 6 months than heās made in the last 2 years.
In the meantime ⦠stick to your proven strategies, stay level-headed, and forge your own path. Donāt fall for the fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
After all, weāre not in this to watch the market ā weāre here to extract money from it, no matter what the vibe is.
Before we go, letās look at:
